Tomorrow the current TNT Champion wrestler Cody Rhodes is to defend his title against his out opponent Sonny Kiss, which got the ire of a homophobic Twitter fan.

Kiss, a gender-fluid wrestler, was one of the initial members of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) that was started in March 2019. Along with Kiss, its membership includes Rhodes, Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks and transgender wrestler Nyla Rose.

"By all accounts, All Elite Wrestling's debut event, Double or Nothing, was a massive success," OutSports wrote in June 2019 after the franchise's first event. "The show broke the MGM Grand attendance record for a wrestling event and is on track to break the pay-per-view buy-rate record for non-WWE/WCW events."

In an interview last year with With Spandex, Kiss described himself as "I'm just this flamboyant, athletic, flipping dude...dude or dudette, however you see it because I'm very ambiguous with my sexuality and gender. I call myself a male but I identify as gender-neutral to the public."

The offensive tweet has been deleted and the user's account has been suspended, but it did catch the attention of both Rhodes and Kiss.

"This is terrible," Cody replied. "And you're not worth the signal boost, but I'll make this clear to fans worldwide: If you have a problem with a gay man receiving a title shot, you can kiss my ass. I'm proud to share the ring with Sonny."

Kiss responded by thanking the support he has received, adding: "I've been incredibly open and comfortable with who I am since I was practically a baby. You can't shame someone who is unabashed.

"LGBTQ+ community and allies, I completely stand with you guys in making wrestling a more positive and comfortable escape for everyone. That is something that we should all strive for. So, once again, I thank you!" And ended with looking forward to Wednesday match: To the LGBTQ+; community: this Wednesday. It's ON! This is not only for me but for US! I'm going into this match feeling better than ever."

When Sonny joined AEW last year, the website TWN News described him as "is not your grandfather's wrestler I can assure you."

And added that the signing of this "proved two things to the world of professional wrestling: Sonny Kiss is the real deal and was signed based on his in-ring abilities, charisma, and ability to connect with fans; and AEW is an all-inclusive company that makes personnel decisions based on talent and ability."

"This last fact is supported by the fact that Sonny Kiss is an openly gay wrestler who happens to be in a relationship with fellow professional wrestler, Killian McMurphy. Sonny Kiss and Killian McMurphy represent the first openly gay couple in professional wrestling, a fact that should be viewed as progress in a profession typically viewed as a macho sport."
