The New York Times reported on Thursday on Andrew Yang's awkward appearance before the prominent New York City LGBTQ Democratic club, the Stonewall Democratic Club of New York City.

In it the NYT there was a partial transcript, but writer/director Harris Doran tweeted a fuller one, which he calls "cringeworthy."

"You know I was endorsed today by Carlos Menchaca, who is someone you may know. Carlos, a city council man and community organizer. So I am sitting with him and Chris Coffey, one of my campaign managers, who's gay. And then I ask Carlos and Chris, and I said, 'Hey, I got a question: Do, does the LGBTQ community like me?' And I ask them this, and then they both look at me and look at each other. And, 'You know what, Andrew. It is a question mark. It is inconclusive, I don't think the LGBTQ community actually feels like they know you well enough to like you or not. They're trying to figure it out.'

"And I looked up and said, 'Yeah. That makes a lot of sense.' And then I told Carlos and Chris, 'It's like, Well, I love them. Like, I love you.' I genuinely do love you and your community. You're so human and beautiful. You make New York City special. I have no idea how we ever lose to the Republicans given that you all are are frankly, like, in leadership roles all over the Democratic Party. Like, the chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, the chair of the Iowa Democratic Party are gay. It's almost like we have this incredible secret weapon. It is not even secret. It's like we should win everything, because we have you all. So I just want to say, you know, like, I hope you have a chance to get to know me and the team better. But I love your community, I'm gonna do everything I can to help."

Politico reported Yang also talked about visiting a famous NYC lesbian bar with two gay co-workers. "Well, first, let me say that if I go to Cubbyhole, I think I'm going to be accompanied by at least one of my two campaign managers who are both gay," the Hell's Kitchen resident laughed. "So there's like a lot of, you know, familiarity with, with the community, at the head of my campaign leading it."

"People watching the forum criticized Yang for pointing to his gay colleagues and supporters on the basis of their gender and sexual identity, rather than why they are important to him," Politico wrote.

SDCNY President Rose Christ said: "He came across like he was a tourist in New York and said he wanted to visit a gay bar," EDGE reported.
