NYC's Space Ibiza Dance Club Shutters to Make Way for Vegas-Style Strip Joint
After a short run, Space Ibiza (former home to noted gay party promoter John Blair's weekly thumping hunkfest "Vers") will be trading their mirror balls for stripper poles. The club, located on 50th Street and the West Side Highway, will be the new home of Las Vegas strip joint chain Spearmint Rhino.
"Spearmint Rhino Gentlemen's Clubs is the world leader in premier entertainment," the company's website says. "Each club offers a personalized experience with the very best in local food and drink choices, unmatched entertainment, hospitality and live shows including adult film star performances."
Spearmint Rhino will join Penthouse's Executive Club on West 45th and Larry Flynt's Hustler Club on 51st Street as the newest high-end jiggle joint in the neighborhood.
And while the owners of Spearmint Rhino tout "live shows including adult film star performances," such goings on will be hardly new to the building's four walls. Last month, Space Ibiza played host to the Saint at Large's annual fetish fest The Black Party, which (per tradition) presents "live acts."
Space Ibiza opened during Fashion Week in 2014 amid much hype. According to a filing with Community Board 4, the dance club plans to relocate.
